Richmond Community- Maxine Helms Williams, 92, died Sunday June 23, 2019 at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was born March 4, 1927 to Allen and Maude King Helms in Lee County, Mississippi. Maxine was special to all of us.

She loved God, her Church and people. Maxine was a member of Richmond Baptist Church. She taught three generations in Sunday school at Richmond Baptist Church over the span of 70 years. Maxine loved all the children she taught, flowers, music, butterflies and the great outdoors.

Maxine touched all of us in a way only Maxine could. Her smile was always there whether she felt good or bad.  She was a graduate of Plantersville High School in the early 1940s. After high school, she started her career at Tombigbee Electric Power Association on October 15, 1945. She retired January 1, 1996, with over 50 years as the Plant Accountant and Assistant Office Manager. She was also a co-owner of Gilpin Cleaners with her late husband, Benny before they both retired.

She was survived by her special niece, Martha Holloway and her husband, Jeff C.; and nieces, Vicki Goddard and her husband, Larry, Patti Rowan, Mitzi Bridges and her husband, Jim and sister-in-law, Sarah Gray; great-nieces, Melissa Billingsley and her husband, Bob and Melinda McKnight; great-nephews, Jeffrey Holloway and his wife, Mandy and Caleb Goddard; great-great-nieces, Olivia Holloway, Hannah McKnight, Katie Linley, and Megan Linley.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years before his death in 2011, Waymond B. "Benny" Williams; parents, Allen and Maude Helms; sister, Irene McDaniel and her husband, Eugene; sister-in-law, Burma Rheaume and her husband, John and brother-in-law, Buddy Gray.

Visitation will be 5 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo.

Services honoring her life will be 2 p.m. Wednesday June 26, 2019 at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Jeremy McMahan officiating. Burial will be at Andrews Chapel Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Brian Lindsey, Cole Benefield, Bob Shumpert, Bill Shumpert, Brad Gilmore, John Keith, Billy Deaton and Jack Tate.

Honorary pallbearers will be the past and present employees of Tombigbee Electric Power Association.

Memorials may be made to Richmond Baptist Church, 276 Pennington Lake Road, Nettleton, MS 38858 and Sanctuary Hospice House, PO Box 2177, Tupelo, MS 38803.
