    January 24, 1943 - January 22, 2012

    Obituary for Mac Evans Thaxton - Mac Evans, 68, died Sunday, January 22, 2012, at the Sanctuary Hospice House after a short illness. A Palmetto Community native, he was born January 24, 1943 to William Elmer and Lillie Geneva Cody Evans. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1965-1971 and had served from 1975-1988 in the Mississippi Army National Guard. He was retired from Southcentral Bell/Bell South/ AT&T with over 27 years of Service. He was a member of Pleasantdale Baptist Chursh. Known as a sports fanatic, He loved. Southern Miss football, GreenBay Packers football, and St. Louis Cardinals baseball and was a MHSAA certified Umpire. He was a big gardener and loved caring for all his many miniature dachshund through the years. Caring for his grandchildren was the joy of his life. He was a member of Pleasantdale Baptist Church. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Don Sparks officiating. Burial will be in Brewer Cemetery. Survivors include one daughter, Suzanne 'Suzie' Mathis (Lynn)of Thaxton; two sons, Michael Evans of Winfield, Alabama and Matthew Evans of Holly Springs; one sister, Elizabeth Bates (William E.) of Tupelo; 9 grandchildren, Brittany Evans, Michael Evans, Zack Evans, Tony Evans, Lil-Mac Neal, Katie Neal, Jacob Evans, Emily Evans, and Bradin Neal; one great grandson, Vincent Kilborne. . He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife JoAnn Evans who preceded her in death October 12, 2009; one son, Anthony Evans, his siblings, John, Edith, Charles, Gene and Bob Evans; and two sisters, Hilda McGee and Millie Lobdell.. Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
