Loretta S. Monts Tupelo- Loretta Sharp Monts 84, surrounded by her family, died Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born August 17, 1932 in New Albany to Lafayette V. Sharp and Minnie Perry Sharp. She was a 1950 graduate of New Albany High School and had received her BS in 1954 from Mississippi University for Women. She married Curtis W. Monts, Jr. April 15, 1954, and they enjoyed 50 wonderful years of marriage. She was a faithful and active member of First United Methodist Church in Tupelo for over 60 years. Loretta served faithfully on various committees at the church such as the Administrative Board, The United Methodist Women, and Altar Guild.  She was a youth leader when her children were young, but later enjoyed being Sunday coordinator of the pre-school children for many wonderful years. She is survived by her son, Mark Perry Monts (Helen); daughter, Denise Monts Flint (Peter); sister, Rose Sharp Lofton; sister-in-law, Mary Farish Sharp; five grandchildren, Robert Kimmel Monts, Catherine Hellon Flint, Curtis Weaver Monts III, Tyler Monts Flint and Camille Perry Flint. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband; brother, L.V. Sharp. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, November 17, 2016 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Fred Britton and Rev. Lynn Mote officiating. A graveside service will follow at Lee Memorial Park in Verona. Pallbearers will be her nephews James Mack Lofton III, Robert Murray Lofton, John Marshall Sharp, Andrew Morrissette Sharp, William Cunningham Sharp, Robert McClellan Sharp, and great nephew Tyler Lancaster Lofton. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 16, 2016, from 5 until 7 p.m. in the gathering room at First United Methodist Church and Thursday 12:30 p.m. until service time also at the Church. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Helping Hands, P.O. Box 854, Tupelo, MS 38802; The Good Samaritan Free Clinic, 420 Magazine St. ,Tupelo, MS 38802 or your favorite charity.
