Leland (Lee) Duncan, Sr.

Obituary for Leland Miller (Lee) Duncan, Sr. Tupelo - Leland Miller (Lee) Duncan, Sr., 89, died Sunday, September 18, 2011, at The Sanctuary Hospice House after an extended illness. A native of Ingomar, he was born March 21, 1922 to Pittser Miller and Edith Mae Goodwin Duncan. He was raised in Ingomar and had been a Tupelo resident since 1950. A Navy veteran of World War II, he served in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii during the war. He was the former owner of Duncan Signs in Tupelo and also was an airplane pilot and worked as a crop duster and avaitation instructor for a number of years. He was an acomplished artist both in woodcarving and oil painting. He was also known for his talant as a neon bender. He was a a member of the American Legion and attended West Jackson Street Baptist Church. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at New Albany Cemetery with Rev. Bert Harper, and Rev. Gary Roberson officiating. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include his daughter, JoAnn Jodi Town of Independence, Missouri; his son, Lee Duncan, Jr.(Zina) of Tupelo; seven grandchildren; Darlene, Jim and John Town, Tr Richey, Shaun, and Chris Duncan (Angela), and Dustin King; the mother of his son, Evelyn Duncan of Tupelo; and his girlfriend of 22 years, Jo Moore of Tupelo; three great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Shaun Duncan, Chris Duncan, Dustin King, Dennis Gable, Bob Smith, and Bobby Dillard. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
