JUDY MERCER
Thaxton- Julia Ann "Judy" Mercer, 78, died, Friday, March 18, 2016 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. She was born on September 24, 1937, to Robert Andrew and Frances Marie Shelton Moore. Judy worked at Sunshine HealthCare until her health failed, where she worked in the dietary department. Her previous work history included 17 years with Hancock Fabrics, Owner of Sew and So Sewing & Alteration Shop, co-owner of Little Friends Daycare and Learning Center with her daughter, Mary Barron, and retired after 20 years with the Tupelo Police Department. Judy loved making "chemo caps" for the patients at Baptist Cancer Center in Oxford. She enjoyed taking a yearly trip to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee and eating at the Smoky Mountain Pancake House.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. William Montgomery and Rev. P. J. Mortensen officiating. Burial will follow in Tupelo Memorial Park. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.
Judy is survived by her children, Andy Mercer of Thaxton, Roger Mercer of Tupelo, Peggy Lawrence (Lee) of Columbus, Shirlie House of Tupelo, Mary Barron (Ken) of Tupelo and Christopher Mercer (Tammy) of Lillian, Alabama; five brothers and sisters, Bobbie Miller, Robert Moore, Harrison Moore, Johnny Moore and Mickey Moore all of Alabaster, Pell City and Enterprise, Alabama; nineteen grandchildren and twenty two great-grandchildren; best friends, Pam White, Ricky & Sherry Loggins, Leo Mask, Randy Roberts, Shelia Moody, Jimmy Edwards, Greg Pollan, Chris Dickinson, Jimmy Johnson, Kim Bedford and Van McWhirter.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Marie Moore; her husband, William E. Mercer; one grandson, Anthony Mercer and one great-grandchild, Gillian Gordon.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Matt Barron, Trevor Bates-Webb, Dustin Edington, Drew Headings, Austin Mercer, John Barron and Drew Mercer.
