Joy Ann Buckner

Saltillo – Joy Harrison Buckner, 64, died August 8, 2017 at Sanctuary Hospice House. She was born April 2, 1953 in Calhoun City, Mississippi to H. G. (Tic) and Dorothy Lloyd Harrison. After graduating from Calhoun City High School, she took a job as an operator with South Central Bell/A. T. and T., and retired 35 years later as area manager – construction and engineering.

She was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School. Joy was convinced that working with the children of the church was her spiritual gift and she loved them dearly. She also loved to travel and play golf, but most of all she loved her family and having them around.

In her lifetime, she was a lady of grace; attractive on the outside and beautiful on the inside. Joy loved us all to the moon and back.

Joy is survived by her loving husband, Dennis Buckner; three sons, Kevin Ward (Stephanie) of Arlington, Tennesse, Joey Ward (Maggie) of Athens, Alabama, and Luke Buckner (Pam) of Madison, Mississippi; two daughters, Dori Richardson (Craig) of Tupelo and Brandy Carnathan (Nik) of Saltillo; mother, Dorothy Langford (Bill) of Tupelo; one brother, James Harrison (Jeanette) of Roswell, Georgia; 15 grandchildren, Justin Ward, Megan Ward, Anna Joy Ward, Holly Grace Ward, Lauren Ward, Ainsley Ward, Conner Ward, Caleb Buckner, Carson Buckner, Sadie Grace Buckner, Drew Richardson (Amber), Will Richardson, Maylie Richardson, Caitlyn Carnathan and Cody Carnathan; two great-granddaughters, Analyn Ward and Rosie Mae Richardson; and two brother-in-laws, Larry Adderholt (Sarah) of Hot Springs, Arkansas, and David Adderholt (Millie) of Chatanooga, Tennessee. She is also survived by a special uncle, Tom Harrison (Shirley) of Lafayette, Louisiana, and many much-loved uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father, H. G. (Tic) Harrison; her grandparents, W. B. (Bill) and Mattie Harrison and Dallas and Lula Mae Lloyd; brother-in-law, Charles Buckner; mother-in-law, Patricia Metcalf; and several beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, August 11, 2017 at the Saltillo Chapel of W. E. Pegues, Saltillo with her grandson, Drew Richardson, officiating. Burial will be at Saltillo Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Justin Ward, Will Richardson, Caleb Buckner, Carson Buckner, Conner Ward, Cody Carnathan, Tyler Harrison, Eddie McDill, Nik Carnathan and Keith Grass.

Honorary pallbearers will be her Bunco buddies and golfing friends, Jackie and John Estes and Terry Grass.

Visitation will be 5 until 8 p.m. Thursday, August 10, 2017 at W. E. Pegues, Saltillo.
