John Phipps, Sr.

Obituary for John Spencer Phipps, Sr. Mooreville - John Spencer Phipps, Sr., 73, died Friday, December 2, 2011, at The Sanctuary Hospice House after an extended illness. A Mayfield, Kentucky native, he was born April 14, 1938, to Jack Stokes and Nancy Albritton Phipps, Sr. He graduated from St. Bernards Boys Prep School in Cullman, Alabama and went on to attend The University of Southern Mississippi and Mississippi State University. He retired from Lee County as a Road Manager after 13 years of service. Also, he served in the Mississippi National Guard. He loved hunting, collecting war memorabilla, building and flying model airplanes, his dog Lee and was an avid reader. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 5, 2011 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Father Tom Lolar officiating. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park. Survivors include two sons, John Spencer Phipps, Jr. (Amy) of Tupelo and Robert Matthew Phipps (Kelli) of Tupelo; two sisters, Nanette Phipps Holland (Duck) of Tupelo and Phyllis Jernigan (Bill) of New Albany; four brothers, Jack Stokes Phipps, Jr. (Patty C. Phipps) of Tupelo, Lawrence Albritton Phipps (Teresa) of Memphis Tenn, Timothy J. Phipps (Margaret) of Saltillo and Thomas Christopher of New Albany; five grandchildren, Andrew Spencer Phipps, John Colton Phipps, Caden Grant Phipps, Robert Weston Phipps, Karson Blayne Phipps; several nieces and nephews.. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 44 years, Brenda Loveless Phipps. Pallbearers will be Charlie Huffstatler, John Thomas Asters, Bobby Evans, Martin Poe, Charles Richey, Philip Phipps, Kevin Cook, Drew Phipps,Charles Rousseau, Billy Rabb, Kevin Beard and Louie Bigham. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. Monday, December 5, 2011 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to The Sanctuary Hospice House,5159 W Main Street Tupelo, MS 38801 .
