Obituary for Joey Sloan Pontocola-On October 17, 2011, the sun set for Joey Sloan, age 55, while he was at his home in the Pontocola Community. The sun rose for Joey on December 31, 1955. He was the son of Charles Leonard and Jewel Dean Whitmon Sloan. He worked as a truck driver, mechanic, and heavy equipment operator. He enjoyed playing dominoes and tonk with all his buddies, working in the yard and loved hanging out with his friends at the Buzy Bee. He also enjoyed mules and wagons, but his greatest love was for his family and friends. He lived life to the fullest and loved God with all his heart. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He will be greatly missed by all of his family. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, October 22, 2011 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Bill Mason officiating. Burial will be in Doty Chapel Cemetery. Survivors include two daughters, Shellie Sloan (Luke) of Pontocola and Laura Pepper (Andy) of Okolona; two sons, Joseph Sloan (Michelle) of Pontotoc and Josey Sloan (Lauren) of Pontocola; his sister, Donna Sue Harmon (Tom)of Pontotoc; his nephews, Daniel Sloan and Caleb Sloan; his niece Candice Peden Henry (John); his special grandkids, Sloan Henry and Juelanna Henry of Pontotoc; his uncle, James (Booty) Sloan (Wanda) of Tupelo; and a host of cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jerry Sloan. Pallbearers will be Tracy Mask, Don Westmoreland, Gerald Holcomb, Darrell McCain, Walter Walters, John Kenney, Billy Parchman, Andy Anderson, John Ivy, Tom Harmon, and Joey Wilson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Tommy Edwards, Daniel Sloan, Caleb Sloan, Luke Schulze, Corey Tackitt, Jerry Tackitt, Chris Black, Jerry Higginbottom, Joe Man, Bobby Grant, Chris Howell, Dustin Wesson, and all his friends Jerry Sloan, Jerry Smithey, Mike Westmoreland, and Jerry Tackitt will be remembered as pallbearers posthumously. Visitation will be 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to American Heart Association, 4830 McWillie Circle Jackson, MS 39206.
