James Reed Hawkins

James Reed Hawkins   Tupelo - James Reed Hawkins, 79, passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at his home. He was born January 16, 1937, to Ruby Leigh Hawkins. He worked at the NMMC for 28 years as a Registered Sonographer. James was the first to work in this field in the Tupelo hospital. In his spare time James enjoyed hunting, fishing and was an avid gun and knife collector. James served his country in the United States National Guard for 9 years. He was Baptist by faith.   Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Nora Faye Hawkins of Tupelo; sons, Mike Hawkins (Sue) of Plantersville and John Hawkins (Bridgett) of Tupelo; grandchildren, Wesley, Scotty and Hannah Hawkins; nephews, Paul Hawkins of Mayland and Doug Hawkins of Missouri.   He was preceded in death by his mother and grandparents, Benjamin and Carrie Leigh Hawkins.   Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Thursday, July 21, 2016, at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo.   Services will be 3:30 p.m. Friday, July 22, 2016, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Don Baggett officiating. Burial will be in Conwill Cemetery.   Pallbearers will be Wesley and Scotty Hawkins, Chris Kelly, Billy Wayne Lindsey, Pete Lindsey and Steve Lindsey.   Expressions of sympathy may be left at www.peguesfuneralhome.com .
