Obituary for James A. Pettigo Saltillo - James Andrew Pettigo, 81, died Sunday, September 11, 2011, at his residence near Saltillo after an eight month long illness. He was born January 2, 1930, in the Twenty Mile Bottom area of Itawamba County to Jack and Sallie Mae Roberts Pettigo. He lived most of his life in Lee County. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sudie Mae Pettigo on June 26, 2009. For over 35 years, he worked with Abernathy and Clark Roofing Contractors in Tupelo. He enjoyed working on old cars, gardening, and taking care of her dogs "Tootsie", "Penny" and "Lady". He was a member of the Baptist Church. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at The Saltillo Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Rev. Wesley Kingsley and Rev. Mackey Pettigo officiating. Burial will be in Eggville Cemetery. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include three daughters, Sue Martin of the Birmingham Ridge Community, Elsie Pettigo of Mantachie, and Shelia Hall of the Hebron Community; two sons, Prentiss Lee Pettigo (Charlotte) of Saltillo, and James Luther Pettigo of Mooreville; one sister, Delois West of the Ballardsville Community, two brothers, T. J. Pettigo of Piggott, Arkansas, and Dewey Pettigo of Columbus; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three special friends, Dean Sailors, Richard Fair, and Tommy Raines. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one son Gary Ray Pettigo, two grandchildren Sarah Pettigo and Douglas Pettigo; three sisters, Lavanie Duncan, Lucille Davis, and Ruby Mitchell; six brothers, Andy Pettigo, Connie Pettigo, Darrell Pettigo, Kenneth Pettigo, Ruble Pettigo, and Ruben Pettigo. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday and from 8 a.m. until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home in Saltillo. Expressions of sympathy may be left at www.peguesfuneralhome.com
