James Paul Loyd

James Paul Loyd, 87, died Thursday, June 6, 2019, surrounded by family at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. He was born in Lee County, June 25, 1931, to Thomas Noah and Farby Plunkett Loyd and was a graduate of Mooreville High School.  Early in life, he served his country during the Korean War in Germany and France in the United States Air Force and United States Air Force Reserves for nine years. For a number of years, he worked as an electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) local 852. Many of those years were with the Tennessee Valley Authority. He was a very active member of the American Legion and the Korean War Veterans Association. Paul was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and deer hunting. He was a member of Eggville Free Will Baptist Church where he was the oldest living male member.

The family would like to extend a special thank you for the kindness, care and meals so generously offered to Mr. Loyd over the years by the owners and staff at Hardin's Grocery.

Survivors include two sons, Mike Loyd and his wife, Kim of Eggville and Pastor Thomas Loyd and his wife, Lisa of New Albany; four grandchildren, Amy Dickens and her husband, Chad of Eggville, Jonathan Loyd of Mantachie, Brittany Graham and her husband, Seth of Eggville and Ben Loyd of New Albany; two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Alexis Dickens; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Farby Loyd; his wife of over 60 years, Mildred Thompson Loyd, who died in September of 2012; two infant siblings; sister, Cletus Overby; and brother, Cecil Loyd.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until service time Saturday, June 8, 2019, at Eggville Free Will Baptist Church.

Services honoring his life will be 4 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2019, at Eggville Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Gerald Gann officiating. Graveside services will follow in Eggville Cemetery. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Barry Bradley, Larry Betts, Chris Whitehead, Tracy Byrd, Art Loyd, Jr. and Dennis Taylor.

Honorary pallbearers will be Truitt Weaver, Karrie Weathers, Willie Estes, Bro. Wayne Thorn, Gene Bishop, Dennis Hallmark, George Bogardus and Ben Hardin.
