REV. JACK WASHINGTON



Auburn Community - Jackie Lee Washington, 71, surrounded by his family passed away Wednesday, October 11, 2017, at Sanctuary Hospice House after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in the Black Zion Community in Pontotoc County June 17, 1946, to Fay Ottis and Mildred Edith Carthran Washington. He was raised in Pontotoc County and graduated from Pontotoc High School. During his working life, Jack was a chemist and foreman at Penn Tire and a plant manager at a polyfoam plant. He owned J & L Ployfoam in Verona and was the pastor for Hughes Chapel Baptist Church over 40 years until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved spending time with his grandchildren.



Survivors include wife of 48 years, Linda Davis Washington of the Auburn Community; children, Derrick Washington of Mooreville, Erick Washington (Crystal) of the Auburn Community, Jolie Rogers (Patrick) of Mooreville, Candy Washington Smith (Buddy) of Wren and Sandy Strawhorn (Mickey) of Nettleton; sister, Mildred Fay Hardin (James) of Tupelo; brother, James Ottis "Jimmy" Washington (Mandy) of Pontotoc and Glenn R. Washington (Shirley) of Pontotoc; grandchildren, Joslan, Tye, Colton and Ellie Kay Washington and Matthew Reynolds, Keith Reynolds, Jamie Foster, Alexander Arnold (Sierra), Stephanie Arnold, Mark Bryson, Wesley Smith (Ariel) and Krista Smith (Jonathan McDonald); 23 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew, Jason Ray Washington.



Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Thursday, October 12, 2017, at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo.



Services will be 12 p.m. Friday, October 13, 2017, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Elbert Ray Bennett officiating. Graveside services will follow in Auburn Cemetery.



Pallbearers will be James Conley, Josh Conley, Daniel Conley, Ralph Capps, Michael Bradley and Clay Richey.
