Tupelo - Helon C. Lewis, 94, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2019, at North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born in Chalybeate November 8, 1924, to Clyde and Ethyl Tomlinson Hopper. She was raised on her family farm and attended school in Chalybeate. She graduated as valedictorian from Blue Mountain College. Helon was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church for over 65 years. She taught typing and bookkeeping at Plantersville schools and was an insurance clerk for W.E. Pegues. On March 14, 1951, she married James G. Lewis and they shared 26 years together until his death in 1977. From that time until 2019 Helon cared for herself and many members of her family in her home in Tupelo. She was a great cook and especially loved to bake. A talented seamstress, Helon was known for the beautiful clothes she made for herself and her family. She loved working crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and counted cross-stitch. She was an ardent reader and Atlanta Braves fan. She also loved her cats and a special dog, "Peanut."

Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Lewis of Tupelo and Barbara Bullard and her husband, David of the Black Zion Community in Pontotoc County; three grandchildren, Tony Barkley and his wife, Debbie of Mooreville, Michael Aderholt and his wife, Debbie of Mooreville and Jeff Barkley of Pensacola, Florida; six great-grandchildren, Matthew Barkley, Catherine Barkley, Caleb Coleman, Chris Bolton, Zack Bolton and Bret Aderholt; and brother, Jeff Hopper and his wife, Bobbie of Hernando.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James G. Lewis; and daughter, Judy who died in 2011.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at W.E. Pegues, Tupelo.

Services honoring her life will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Rev. Roger Puhr officiating. Graveside services will follow in Lee Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be David Bullard, her grandsons, and great-grandsons.
