Glenda Spivey

February 10, 1956 — July 3, 2019

Tupelo - Glenda Dale Spivey, 63, died Wednesday, July 3, 2019. She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, February 10, 1956. As an infant, she was adopted by Glen and Dorothy Smith of Saltillo.

Glenda graduated from Saltillo High School, where she was involved in numerous activities such as band and majorette. She maintained an active lifestyle throughout her life, becoming particularly involved with the local dance community as a beloved teacher and choreographer to a multitude of students, many of whom referred to her as “Miss Glenda“ well into their respective adulthoods.

After retiring from teaching dance, Glenda became a fitness enthusiast, participating daily in yoga, weight training, and various other forms of exercise. She particularly enjoyed taking long and strenuous nature walks with her husband, James.

Compassionate by nature, Glenda always put others’ needs before her own, and did so with grace and humility. As a proud Baptist deeply rooted in her faith, she firmly believed in service to others in order to serve God.

In addition to her dance and fitness background, Glenda was a hospice volunteer, an animal rights activist, an avid Tupelo-Lee Humane Society supporter, and a proud advocate for the Tupelo Police Department and Lee County Sheriff’s Department.

Above all else in life, Glenda loved being with her family, educating herself, and meticulously studying her Bible.

Survivors include her husband, James Spivey of Tupelo; daughter, Leigh Spivey Jefferson and her husband, Eric, of Cumming, Georgia; granddaughter, Elise Jefferson; and devoted best friend, Susan Bucy, of Arlington, Tennessee.

Glenda was preceded in death by her parents.

Per Glenda’s wishes, a private family memorial service has been held.

Memorials may be made to the Tupelo-Lee Humane Society, 2795 Cliff Gookin Blvd, Tupelo, MS 38801.
