Obituary for Frances Elkin Joyner Tupelo Frances Elkin Joyner, 101, died Thursday, September 1, 2011, at The Sanctuary Hospice House after a brief illness. She was born November 23, 1909, to Dr. Thomas Fitzgerald and Lottie Armstrong Elkin. A lifelong resident of Tupelo, she graduated from Tupelo High School and National Park Seminary, a girls finishing school in Forest Glen, Maryland. She married her husband of 59 years, Ernest Love Joyner, Jr., on October 14, 1936. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher for 30 years and was active in Presbyterian Women. She was a charter member of Tupelo Junior Auxiliary and a member of the Fortnightly Matinee Club, the Salvation Army Auxiliary, the Hospital Auxiliary, and the Peripatetic Club. A Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 10, 2011 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Tom Groome and Rev. Dr. Ron Richardson officiating. A private family graveside service will be held at Glenwood Cemetery. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include her children, Ernest Love Joyner, III (Jamie), Frances Joyner Brasfield (Dan), Judith Joyner Hodges (Billy), all of Tupelo; her grandchildren, Bliss Joyner Kaye (Frank), Ernest Love Joyner, IV (Hailley), Thomas Rowland Joyner (Anastasia), Frances Brasfield Langewisch (Bob), Dale Brasfield Waller (Greg), Katherine Brasfield Gottlieb (Randy), Dr. William Francis Hodges, Jr. (Kim), Margaret Hodges Curtis (Chris); and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her sister, Ruby Elkin McGaughy. :Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Hughes Milam, Kenneth Milam, Gartrell Milam III, Jack Reed Jr., Scott Reed, Robert Reed, George Doherty, Nick Doherty, Raymond Doherty, Elkin McGaughy, Clay McGaughy Jr., Kent McGaughy, Dr. Steven Murphey, Cooper Murphey, Guy Mitchell III, David Brevard, Dr. Alan Flowers, and Irvin B. Prude Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m Friday at the funeral home and 1 p.m. to services time Saturday at McFadden Hall at the church. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 400 W. Jefferson St., Tupelo MS 38804; The Sanctuary Hospice House, PO Box 2177, Tupelo MS 38803; or a charity of the donor's choice.
