December 26, 1929 — March 4, 2019

Tupelo- Elizabeth C. Ford, 89, passed away Monday, March 4, 2019 in the arms of her son at her residence in “The Villages”. She was born in Prentiss County, December 26, 1929 to Bob and Effie Cappleman. Elizabeth came from the most humble beginnings and worked her way up the ladder of life to achieve her goals in the Health Care field.

She was appointed the first female Assistant Administrator/Vice President of the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo and held that position for 35 years. Elizabeth was a pioneer, breaking through the glass ceiling so other females in healthcare had greater opportunities.

She is survived by her only child, Anthony “Tony” Lee Ford of Tupelo; three nieces, Sara Garrett and her husband, Don of Germantown, Tennessee, Deborah Hyland and her husband, Tom of Marlton, New Jersey and Kathy Everitt and her husband, Lee of Iuka; nine great-nieces and nephews, Gina Farley of Germantown, Taylor Bedingfield of Jackson, Leslie, Jake and Sara-Kate Vannucci all of Palm Coast, Florida and Troy Vannucci of Marlton and Buddy and Terrye Grisham of Ripley; and many extended family members.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Effie Cappleman; and brother, Purvis Cappleman and his wife, Ruth of Iuka.

Services will be 5 p.m. Monday, March 11, 2019 at St. Luke United Methodist Church with Rev. Hannah Comer Shempert officiating. A covered reception will follow at 6 p.m. at Robins Field and will be catered by Romie’s Grocery. All friends, neighbors and members of St. Luke are invited and encouraged to attend. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at Booneville Cemetery with Bro. Rob Gill officiating.

Pallbearers will be Tony Ford, David Humphreys, Joel Humphreys, Gerald Wages, John Vaughn and Larry Coggins.

Tony would like to thank the St. Luke ladies and church congregation, Elizabeth’s friends and neighbors at The Villages, past and present staff at North Mississippi Medical Center as well as their current Home Health Care and Home Hospice staff, Wellness Center Staff and members and a special thank you to their loving family friends Dr. and Mrs. Ashley Harris of Columbus.
