Earnest "Dee" Streit

June 26, 1932 — February 7, 2019

Earnest Frederick "Dee" Streit, 86, died Thursday, February 7, 2019. He was born in Gasden, Alabama, June 26, 1932, to E.S. and Billie C. Coin Streit.  His father worked for the Alabama Power Company and the family moved around a good bit during his childhood, however; he spent most of his younger years in Tupelo and graduated from Tupelo High School in May of 1950. In December of that same year, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in the Korean War. In January of 1955, he met his wife, Doris Clayton, and on March 18, they married. He worked at Weatherall's Printing, Day-Brite Lighting, Eljer Plumbingware and Arvin and prior to retirement, had worked as the maintenance manager at Tupelo Nursing and Rehab which was by far his happiest job of all. Earnest was a member of American Legion Post # 49 and a master carpenter. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and building things for others including several items for his church. He loved Ole Miss Football and the New Orleans Saints. He was a member of All Saints' Episcopal Church.

Survivors include three children, David Streit and his wife, Karen of Brandon, Danny Streit and his wife, Melinda of Nashville, Tennessee and Dedra Rainey and her husband, David of Saltillo; three grandchildren, Stephanie Streit of Memphis, Tennessee, Brittany Horton and her husband, Clayton of Bartlett, Tennessee and Savannah Streit of Jackson; five step-grandchildren, Laura MacIsaac and her husband, Roger of Cordova, Tennessee, Sarah Sheppard and her husband, Brian of Evergreen, Colorado, Sarah Turner and her husband, Jason of Oakland, Tennessee, Wes Pittman and his wife, Anjie of Readfield, Maine and Cole Pittman and his wife, April of Memphis; and 11 great-grandchildren, Ella, Olivia, Sutton, Campbell, Sawyer, Lorelei, Quinn, Jessa, Dean (who is expected to arrive in May), Griffin and Kai.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 62 years, Annie Clayton Streit.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time Friday, February 15, 2019 in the Parish Hall at All Saints' Episcopal Church.

A celebration of his life will follow at 3 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2019 at All Saints' Episcopal Church with The Rev. Dr. Sarah Gaedes officiating. Internment at All Saints' Columbarium will be private.
