DOROTHY JEAN McMULLAN LONG Saltillo – Dorothy Jean McMullan Long, 89, passed away Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at the Sanctuary Hospice House. She was born January 3, 1928 to Weaver and Maude Houston McMullan. In the class of 1946, Dorothy Jean graduated from Saltillo High School. On March 17, 1950, she married William Marley “Will” Long at Tupelo First Presbyterian Church. She spent most of her working life in the home caring for her children and grandchildren. A lifelong member of Saltillo First United Methodist Church, Dorothy Jean had a beautiful soprano voice and sang in the choir for a number of years. Dorothy Jean was dearly missed by fellow choir members when she retired. She enjoyed gardening and was a talented seamstress. Mama Jean was extremely proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include her children, William W. “Bill” Long (Nancy), David Owen Long (Teresa) and Jeanne Irwin (Mike) all of Saltillo; grandchildren, Jennifer Long Grisham (Josh) of Saltillo, Jason Long (Brook) of Thaxton and John Long (Jennifer), David McMullan Long (Anna), Ginger Austin (Kevin), Mary Carmen Justice (Matt), Kelly Senter (Joseph), Kevin Irwin (Brittany) and Kyle Irwin (Katy) all of Saltillo; 19 great-grandchildren; sister, Magdalen Irwin (Billy) of Saltillo; sister-in-law, Frances Gardner of Baldwyn and special caregivers, Tina Kindt and Almeda Carter. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband and, also, her brother, John Franklin McMullan. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Thursday, August 31, 2017 at Saltillo First United Methodist Church and one hour prior to service time Friday, September 1, 2017. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, September 1, 2017 at Saltillo First United Methodist Church with Rev. Tim Green officiating. Graveside services will follow in Lee Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and grandsons-in-law, Jason Long, John Long, David Long, Kevin Irwin, Kyle Irwin, Matt Justice, Joseph Senter, Josh Grisham and Kevin Austin. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Adeline Jones Sunday school class. Memorials may be made to Saltillo First United Methodist Church, PO Box 146, Saltillo MS 38866.
