October 5, 1932 — February 21, 2019

Jackson, formerly of Tupelo- Dorothy Jean Sheffield Culver, 86, passed away Thursday, February 21, 2019 at Compere's Nursing Home in Jackson. A native of Itawamba County, she was born on October 5, 1932 to Willie Owen and Mandy Holland Sheffield. She was a resident of Tupelo for most of her life, but has called Jackson home for the last three years. On August 12, 1950, she married Guy Culver and they shared 31 wonderful years together until his death in 1981.

She enjoyed serving alongside her husband in ministry as a pastor’s wife at several churches in North Mississippi including Zion Baptist Church in Itawamba County, Tishomingo Chapel Baptist Church in Alcorn County and Northside Baptist Church in Union County. They later served together in Associational Missions at the Union and Prentiss County Baptist Associations until his death. She later retired as a seamstress from Reed Manufacturing Company in Tupelo after a 15 year career.

She enjoyed cooking and her role as homemaker to her family, but most of all she loved using her gifts to serve others. She lived a simple life and it brought her joy to do things for others and to form warm and loving relationships with those with whom she came in contact.

Survivors include two daughters, Marsha Rossell and her husband, Don of Melissa, Texas and Sandra Culver of Brandon; two granddaughters, Cayla Madaris and her husband, Jason of West Memphis, Arkansas and Hannah Rossell of Melissa; three great-grandsons, Logan and Landon Layman, and Jaxon Madaris all of West Memphis; and one sister, Hazel Hall of Tupelo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Eula Mae Sheffield Gardner, Maxine Sheffield, Irene Sheffield Foster and Mildred Sheffield; four brothers, Edgar Sheffield, Oliver Sheffield, Flaudy Sheffield and Lenard Sheffield; and one brother-in-law, Eugene Hall.
