Clara Faye Cantrell

Tupelo - Clara Faye Putt Cantrell, 96, passed away Thursday, February 14, 2019, at Generations Senior Living. A native of Tupelo, Clara Faye was born on June 14, 1922 to Luther and Mary Hignite Putt. She married Garland I. "Gene" Cantrell in 1944 and together they had one daughter and one son. Clara Faye was a homemaker and for a period of years she worked in the Tupelo High School cafeteria. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her friends and church family and participating in various church activities. Tending to her garden, sewing and cooking were some of her favorite past times. Clara Faye was a member of East Heights Baptist Church since the young age of 18, and a faithful member of the Senior Ladies Sunday School class.
Survivors include her daughter, Janice C. Gavin and her husband, George of Laurel; son, Ronald E. Cantrell and his wife, Deedee of Tupelo; stepbrother, Thomas Whitlock and his wife of Fort Walton, Florida; grandson, Michael D. Gavin of Laurel; granddaughter, Melanie G. Dew and her husband, Michael of Brandon; four great-grandchildren, Aubrey Kate, Marley Clara, Owen and Levi Dew; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Garland I. "Gene" Cantrell; parents, Luther and Mary Putt; sister, Irene Lesley; brother, Claude Putt; step-mother, Winnie Putt; and step-sister, Gladys Justice.
Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until service time Saturday, February 16, 2019, at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, February 16, 2019, at the Jefferson Street Chapel with Rev. Terry Ledbetter officiating and Melanie Dew providing the family tribute. Burial will follow in Lee Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be George Gavin, Michael Gavin, Michael Dew, Gary Long, Richard Cantrell and Mitchell Scruggs.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Aubrey Kate, Marley Clara, Owen and Levi Dew and the staff of Generations Senior Living.
The service will be live streamed and recorded for those who may not be able to attend at www.peguesfuneralhome.com .
