Rev. Cecil Greenway

October 9, 1928 — March 9, 2019

Cecil Greenway, 90, passed from this life on March 6, 2019 in Savannah, Georgia. He was born in Jerome, Arkansas on October 9, 1928 to Tolly and Ivy Casteel Greenway. Bro. Greenway grew up in South Arkansas. His mom and dad received the Holy Ghost early in their lives. His dad was a farmer and they lived during the Great Depression. He told many stories about it. He wanted to be a farmer until he received his call to preach the gospel. He loved hunting and fishing with his brothers. He received the baptism of the Holy Ghost when his future father-in-law, Rev. John W. Rucks, came through preaching a revival and shortly after he received his call to preach. He knew his wife, Dorothy Rucks Greenway, most of his life. When he was about 10 years old, he said that one day he would marry her, and he did. He liked to tell the story about their honeymoon when he preached his first revival.
Bro. Greenway started two churches which are thriving today and he pastored a total of five churches. Those churches were in Star City, Arkansas; Dexter, Missouri; West Memphis, Arkansas; West Helena, Arkansas; and his last Pastorate was in Tupelo, Mississippi at Cedar Grove Pentecostal Church, where he pastored for 30 years and then retired at 70 years of age. He served as an Evangelist, Youth Director, Presbyter and the Harvestime Southeast Regional Director for several years.
Survivors include two daughters, Pamela Hodge (Rev. David Hodge) of Savannah, Georgia and Patty Childers (Rev. Kenny Childers) of Starkville; six grandchildren, Tonya Marin (Elkin) of Guyton, Georgia, Kimberly Burns (Jerry) of Savannah, Kelly Smith (Dean) of Starkville, Kendall White (Bryce) of Starkville, Jeremy Hodge (Christina) of Savannah, Jeffrey Hodge of Redlands, California; 12 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Juanita Greenway, Mickey Long and Paulette Murphy; brother, James Greenway; and special care taker, Deborah Lane of Savannah.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife of 60 years, Dorothy Rucks Greenway; and brother, Herbert Greenway.
