C. “Doc” Privette

Wheeler Community- Charles Chester Privette, M. D., 87, died Saturday, September 23, 2017 at home. C. C. was born in Pine Tree, Arkansas to Chester and Vera Susler Privette.

C. C. graduated from Gulf Coast Military Academy and enlisted in 1947 in The 11th Airborne Division ("Angels") in the United States Army, serving as paratrooper and Special Forces. On September 20, 1977, C. C. graduated from United American Medical College earning the degree of Doctor of Medicine.

C. C., who was affectionately called “Doc," was respected by many of his fellow law enforcement officers. He was a mentor to many Federal, State, and Local law enforcement officers, giving them career and personal guidance daily. He would advise city councilmen and mayors on law enforcement issues because of his vast experience. During a transition period of the Tupelo Police Department, C. C. was called by Mayor Jack Marshall in 1996 to carry the department through changing times. Appointed Deputy Chief for a brief period, C. C. would implement changes to the department that last through today.  C. C. also served his country with work for abroad. He was fluent in Spanish and worked for law enforcement agencies along the Texas border. He also advised countries in Central America on law enforcement and other issues.  He has many friends that continue to serve in law enforcement.

C. C. regularly ate breakfast with many of his friends at Shockley’s and Chevrolet place. He enjoyed and supported Jimmy Swaggart ministries. He also owned North Mississippi Chiropractic in Tupelo. On September 4, 1992, he married the former Peggy Barber.

C. C. is survived by his wife of 25 years, Peggy Barber Privette of Wheeler Community; two children, Victoria Privette of Arkansas and Chuck Privette (Jenny) of Tampa, Florida; two step-children, Robert Barber (Lori) of Ratliff Community and Martha Everitt of Tupelo; grandchildren, Christy Privette Cunningham (Jason) of Florida, Zachary Privette (Bridget) of Florida, Taylor Barber Barnett (Tyler) of Guntown, Justin Barber of Ratliff, Jordan Barber of Ratliff, Lynsey Barber of Ratliff, Jessica Everitt Koehn (Ross) of Tupelo and Eric Everitt (Lindsey) of Tupelo; and six great-grandchildren, Jason, Nathan, Sam Bob and Wesley Cunningham, and Cole and Aubree Privette.

He was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law, Ruby T. Sheffield; and brother, Woody Clark.

Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until service time Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Bill Adams officiating.

Graveside services with Military Honors will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at Corinth National Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Robert Barber, Jordan Barber, Justin Barber, Tyler Buse, Col. Jerry Seaman, Tim Rutledge, Tyler Barnett and Chuck Privette.
