Brenda Lee Duffie

Brenda Lee Duffie, 72, Lee County’s first female Sheriff’s Deputy, passed away Monday, April 24, 2017, at her home after a lengthy illness. She was born February 28, 1945, to Leslie Williams and Mary Jane Mallette. On May 7, 1966, Brenda married Marvin Duffie in Frankstown. Brenda was appointed as first female deputy in Lee County by Sherriff Johnny Price. There she worked as a 911 dispatcher and helped organize addresses for old county roads. For a short time, she teamed with her husband truck driving. Brenda enjoyed horseback riding, camping and spending time with family. She was a member of Church of God of Tupelo.

Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Marvin Duffie of Saltillo; children, Sherry Hardin (Wade) of Shannon, Glen Posey (Teri) of Saltillo and Michael Duffie of Saltillo; grandchildren, Kristie Thompson of Saltillo, Matthew Thompson (Summer) of Saltillo, Hunter Hardin of Jacksonville, North Carolina, Justin Posey (Hannah) of Redding, California, Jordon Posey (Erica) of Saltillo, Liberty Duffie and Caleb Duffie of Saltillo and great-grandchildren, Mark Thompson, Jaklin Jones, Dustin Thompson, Andrew Thompson, Blaylin Oliver, Matalyn Thompson and Grayson Posey.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Brenda's cargiver, Ashley Deloach, who was more like a family member and, also, Kindred Hospice for their wonderful care they gave her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Keena Newman.

Visitation will be from 5 until 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at W. E. Pegues, Saltillo.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, April 27, 2017 at the Saltillo Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Brother Scott Witcher officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons, Jordon Posey, Mark Thompson, Jaklin Jones, Dustin Thompson, Matthew Thompson, Blaylin Oliver, Andrew Thompson and Hunter Hardin.

Honorary pallbearers will be Glen Posey and Wade Hardin.
