Billy H. BrelandTupelo-Billy H. Breland, 84, passed away Sunday, December 27, 2015 at University of Alabama Birmingham hospital facilities in Birmingham after a short illness.
He was born January 22, 1931. A native of Green County, Miss., Mr. Breland was the son of the late Harold L. Breland and the late Martha Kittrell Breland. He completed high school in McLain, Miss., and received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from The University of Mississippi. He moved to Tupelo September 1, 1952, working in private practice as a certified public accountant.
He spent much of his career working with entrepreneurs and business leaders to help establish some of the largest locally-owned industries and businesses in North Mississippi.
Mr. Breland was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Mississippi Society of Certified Public Accountants.
He is survived by his wife, Betty J. Duke Breland of Tupelo, who he married in 1955. He is also survived by a sister, Harlene Boykin of Mobile, Ala.; a brother, Thomas Breland of Orville, Ala.; sisters-in-law, Edith Fikes (Charles) of the Chesterville Community and Kathyn Breland of Hattiesburg, Miss.; brothers-in-law, Cecil Duke and Charles Duke (Pat) both of the Chesterville Community; nieces and nephews; and special caregiver, Keith Reece of Tupelo.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Juadine Breland and brothers, James Breland and Curtis Breland; sister-in-law, Dorthy Stepp and brother-in-law, Claude Duke.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 29, from 5 to 8 p.m. at W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors, Tupelo, with funeral services 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues. Dr. Bryant Barnes will officiate.
Pallbearers will be William "Bill" Duke, Tom Robinson, David Williams, Jimmy Snyder, Harold Hodges, Keith Reece, Charles Fikes, and Jim Couch.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contribution to the Tree of Life Clinic, 541 West Main Street, Tupelo, Mississippi 38804 or Calvary Baptist Church, Post Office Box 1008, Tupelo, Mississippi 38802.
