Obituary for Basil Fain Fulton - Basil Lee Fain, 92, died Tuesday, August 23, 2011, at The North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness. Born October 18, 1918, in the Blue Springs Community, he was the son of Lemuel Paul and Artie Rebecca Bedwell Fain. He was a graduate of Tupelo High School and attended Louisiana State University on a football scholarship and earned his degree from Memphis State University. He also attended Auburn University, the University of Tennessee, and the Florida Southern College of Lakeland, Fla. A US Army Air Force Veteran of World War II, he served as an instrument flight instructor and was awarded many service ribbons and medals. He was a member of the American Legion Post #49. He had long working career, teaching science almost 20 years in the Lakeland, Florida Schools and was elected president of the Pope County Teachers Association for 2 consecutive terms. His last position was teaching with the Division of the Blind at Tupelo Rehabilitation Center, retiring at age 67. He was also a member of the Lions Club and a longtime member of First Baptist Church. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, August 26, 2011 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Dr. Gayle Alexander and Rev. Chad Grayson officiating. Burial will be in New Home Cemetery in Itawamba County. Survivors include his wife, Brenda S. "Suzy" Fain of Fulton; three daughters, Shelli Marie Pafford (Bill) and Linda Kaye Robinson (Greg), all of Lakeland Fla. and Lacie Lee Fain of Fulton; his sister, Dena Mae Kull of Silver Springs, Md.; five grandchildren, Bethany Marie (Doug) of Winterhaven, Fla., Robby Fain of Lakeland, Fla., Scott Michael Pafford of Tallahassee, Fla., Bradley Kyle Pafford of Lakeland, Fla., and Brittany Marie Pafford of Boco Rottan, Fla.; a host of special family, friends and clients. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Kitty Holladay. Pallbearers will be Frankie Wallace, Freddy Wallace, Scott Pafford, Bradley Pafford, Don Long and Robert Long. Honorary Pallbearers will be Phillip Long, Will Hollday, Dane Kull, Tony Wallace, Robby Fain Robinson, David Kull, Larry Smith, Timothy Holladay, Patrick Wallace, Van Allan Wallace, and David Puckett, Jr. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
