ANN STOKES



Belden - Mary Ann Stokes, 83, passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2017, at North Mississippi Medical Center. A life-long resident of Belden, she was born April 30, 1934, to Juan and Alva Herring Stokes. She graduated from Belden High School in the class of 1952 as Valedictorian. During high school, Ann won the Citizenship Medal, was a member of the student council and secretary of her senior class. Ann worked at Central Service Association for 50 years as a Customer Service Representative and several peoples mentor until her retirement in 2002. As a breast cancer survivor, Ann was devoted to supporting organizations that aided in cancer research. She loved spending time with her family and loved her nieces and nephews as her own. Ann was a big "people person", enjoyed music and reading, and during her younger years, traveling with friends. She enjoyed bird watching and getting to set out her flowers was her favorite part about spring. Ann was a faithful member of Belden United Methodist Church and loved her church family.



Survivors include her sister, Martha Summers (Trent) of Belden; nieces, Lisa Gilland (James "Lem") of Belden and Jennifer Kyle (Tim) of Blue Springs; great-nephew, Chris Gilland Saltillo and great-great-nephews, Kayleb Gilland Saltillo and Skylar Gilland of the Auburn Community.



She was preceded in death by her parents and great-nephew, Justin Gilland.



Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Friday, September 15, 2017, at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo.



Services will be 12 p.m. Saturday, September 16, 2017, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Danny Wilburn and Rev. Debra Lay officiating. Graveside services will follow in Union Cemetery.



Pallbearers will be James Gilland, Chris Gilland and Tim Kyle.



Honorary pallbearers will be Trent Summers, Kayleb Gilland and Skylar Gilland.



In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Belden United Methodist Church, 5157 Endville Road, Belden MS 38826, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 or Breast Cancer Research Foundation, 60 East 56th Street, 8th Floor, New York, NY 10022.
